Passed with no issue. Title transfered. Plates on. I’ve been driving it all morning, and giggling like a kid. The Brick is FAST. when that boost comes on... Grip the wheel and hold on for dear life. Also nice, the many great noises emanating from the exhaust and intake.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Only gripe? B eing charged taxes on whatever valuation they use at the DOL instead of the sale price that’s written down is absolute bullshit. When did that change go into effect..?

Oh well. At least I spotted this gorgeous green V70R at the DOL. Lady said she’d had it since it was new.

*drool*

I think I need Pegs. I know they bend easily. I know they’re overdone. But they look sooooo good.

I think just about everywhere ignores the bill of sale and uses a book valuation — otherwise we’d all just sell our cars for $1 to evade the taxes :D

Nice brick, she looks pretty!

That is quite literally what everyone did in Seattle, up until whenever this change happened. The car was a “gift”

I remember the Miata was written down as a $100 purchase which made registering it quite cheap

Congrats! Good to have another fellow turbo brick back on the road! You had mentioned that the current wheels are OEM S60 units , but I can’t recall ever seeing them; they’re quite attractive, though—a bit like a more modern version of the famous Volans on the original 850R’s. Volvo has a huge variety of OEM wheels and pretty much any wheel from the FWD generation is swappable IIRC (don’t quote me on that, but pretty sure) so don’t feel limited to Pegs but feel free to slap some on if they’re calling to you !

in canada, there is no book value for bikes. so they last 30 bikes i’ve sold were all for 1-300$. :)

I greatly disliked them at first when I saw the pictures on Craigslist, but I’ll admit these wheels have grown on me. Still... I think either Pegs or Comets need to happen.

There’s also a  star wheel that I THOUGHT was OEM but I’m having trouble finding it....

Note that if you want the Pegasus wheels but are embarrassed to have the R on a non-R, Volvo also made a wheel called “ Titan” that’s similar but 17x7 rather than 17x8 or 18x8 and unmarked:

Kinja'd!!!

There’s another 5-spoke called “Canicula”, that has somewhat more slender spokes (doesn’t look as good though IMO).

I think the tax thing is unavoidable if you don’t want people cheating. It would have been pretty easy to draw up your documents for something other than what you actually paid.

That's on the "eventually" list. I'm quite curious. I know it's been tuned and has the standard accompanying bolt-ons and other mods. I've heard it's roughly a 50hp 50 ft/lbs boost over stock...

MI will charge you tax on the actual sale price, but your registration fee is based off the vehicles original msrp. Which is bullshit if you ask me.

I don’t know if this place is any good to order from, but they seem to have a very comprehensive wheel selection: https://www.hubcaphaven.com/c/290/volvo_wheels_rims.html

There’s a lot of overlap between the models, but there are some model-specific designs so make sure to peek in all the categories.

Serious bullshit, and I’m sure a policy because the big three wanted to create a disincentive for hanging on to old cars vs. buying new ones.

WI goes by sale price. I hadn’t one guy tell me to “just put like 200” in for sale price on the title transfer thing. The car was 2000. I wrote 2000 he was pissed.

Wisconsin still doesn’t do book valuation thankfully...I’m sure a lot of vehicles are surprisingly cheap according to DMV records.

Ya they really should charge based on weight in my opinion. Since heavier cars do more road damage. They’d probably make more money that way too with the number of trucks and suvs people drive around.

Yes! Always! If you count my old 97 cavalier and 96 Cutlass!

Though, on the cavalier, I did port and polish the head, fit a long tube header, upgraded exhaust, ignition, and intake... It was still a dumb pig. But it was reliable and I learned a ton working on it.

Paint your current wheels in that gun metal color and you’re basically there.

I was looking up how other states do it, found out Missouri has the weirdest fee system of all. http://www.ncsl.org/Portals/1/Documents/transportation/Motor_Vehicle_Registration_Fees_18014.pdf#page=26

Alabama doesn’t either — at the point of sale. However, when you get your annual registration in the mail later that year, you will get a “true up” to the book value at that point. Ad valorem taxes are hard to dodge. You can lodge a protest if you think it’s too high, but it’s rarely worth the effort like it is for a house.

So just imagine the consequences of zero emissions testing AND cars get cheaper to register as they age. Incentive to buy (and keep) older, more dangerous, more polluting vehicles. Somewhat ironically, this is mostly a left-wing tax policy. But everyone seems ok with it.

I hate property tax...again thankfully no annual tax on vehicles in Wisconsin, only a standard yearly registration fee.

All property tax should be illegal in my mind. You shouldn’t be taxed simply because you own something. Replace them all with sales tax and more so income tax (income tax is probably to most fair tax we have since you’re taxed based on your ability to pay).

I totally agree with a combo of sales and income tax. That seems like a safer diversification of taxes for all involved. Property taxes are archaic - from a time when people who owned assets would profit from those assets (livery vehicles, manor homes or farms, etc). Today most property taxes are levied on non-income-producing assets and just hurt the poor and retirees the hardest.

I don’t like income tax, but it’s stable. Sales tax is the “fairest” of all but far too volatile for a city or state to bank its entire budget upon.

They do to a point IIRC.

You can’t just write in $100 like you used to be able to, if you do they’ll still tax on “value”, unless you can prove it was non-running or something.

At least I recall hearing that had changed, maybe I’m wrong.

Hydra. They are 16's. You might need to run hub rings or have them bored out. Not sure of the specs. Those were on  the 740 Turbos.

Idk last vehicle I registered I put a “that’s a very good deal” price, but not into absurd territory. Didn’t notice anything different that would indicate they changed anything, didn’t really look too hard though either

I recall hearing about it a while back. Never personally dealt with it as my vehicles aren’t worth anything to the DMV anyway.
